Welcome!

This is the story of a boy named Daniel and a girl named Ciera, currently living together in Melbourne, Australia. Ciera came from America to be with Daniel, and is in Australia on a 12-month Working Holiday Visa. Together, they're having heaps of fun, and documenting their experiences along the way. This blog is just a glimpse into their life together.

Please comment! We'd love to hear what you have to say :).

Week 26 – The real half-way point and CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas!

As you can tell by the title, this week was the actual half-way point. 😉 We were counting months by four weeks but, since a year has 52 weeks, we messed it up a little. 26 weeks = half a year… blahblahblah. You get the point!

On Tuesday of this week, the business Daniel works at (PageUp People) had a Christmas party. His manager insisted that he go and even offered to pay for me to join. We accepted the offer and ended up having a great time! It was held at Richmond Union Bowling Club, a place to play lawn bowls. The party started with drinks and food (mostly BBQ). It later moved out to the lawn where we bowled… simple enough xD. It was great to meet all the people Daniel works with. I know some people were excited to meet me, too.

Nothing else happened during thing week until Friday. I got some bad news that day and Daniel got to get off work early!  I got a text during the day from work. They were informing me and my coworkers that there wouldn’t be any available shifts until AFTER 31 January. The break was originally supposed to be two weeks. Read the rest of this post…

Week 25 – Nearly Christmas!

Ciera after her hair being dyed.

This week was quite good. Ciera and I had a lot going on. On Monday, Ciera had two shifts at work, which was pretty draining for her :P. Since it’s nearly Christmas, Ciera doesn’t have any shifts at work for two weeks, and I have a few days off. More time together, woot!

On Thursday, I had to do a presentation about my work placement, to my manager at work, as well as the supervisor for the placement (a person from my university). I was very worried, but I think it went alright. I’m always really scared of presentations; I hate them heaps. I guess I just dislike presenting stuff, and public speaking. In any case, my manager said it went very well, so I’m quite happy about that. Now I just need to worry about writing the final report!

On Friday, Ciera had her last shift for the year. Since she was working until 7 PM, I told her that I’d go straight from work to home, and meet her there. However, I didn’t actually do that, and surprised her at work instead. Bought her a delicious blueberry muffin too. She was very surprised and I’m sure she appreciated it. Seriously, when you have a blueberry muffin, what could possibly go wrong?! It makes life more awesome. Read the rest of this post…

Half-way point! (6 months)

We love our boy <3

The past 6 months have gone by sooooo quickly! Daniel and I don’t really pay attention to what week or month it is until we start working on these posts, so we got really excited when I realized it’s been 6 months!! It’s hard to believe in another half a year, we’ll be on our way to America.

Anyways, This week has been like all the others… for Daniel at least. He’s been very focused on work and getting his presentation done (due this Thursday). He also has a two week project that he’s busy doing at the same time. Busy, busy man. 😛 Work for me this week SUCKED. It’s been the past few weeks, actually. I’m really getting tired of the company I’m with but I’m going to stick with them until I HAVE to quit. They’ve been taking shifts away the day before I do them and switching the times from what I’m used to. It’s just getting annoying. I plan on finding a nice data entry or filing job very soon! :)

Daniel and I met up only a few times during the week. Tuesday, Daniel met me after work at a train station in one of the inner suburbs (Camberwell). Thursday, I met him after work. I believe we took some extra time to get home, probably looking for bike helmets both times. On Friday, I was supposed to work but they called me on Thursday saying my shift wasn’t supposed to exist and then hung up… *ANGRY FACE*. Read the rest of this post…

Week 23 together!

Being awesome waiting for a bus.

This week has been pretty amazing, much like all the other weeks. The only bad thing was that Ciera was feeling sick for most of the week :(. This post will be pretty short, I’ve got heaps to do so don’t have much time to write up a blog post :(

On Monday, Ciera had work during the day. She came into the city early so I got to see her both during lunch, and after I finished work, which was pretty awesome :). On Wednesday, it was deployment day at work again, so I had to be there at 7am.  This meant I finished early, so I got to see Ciera earlier than normal, and spend more time with her!

On Saturday, we both went Christmas shopping together. We didn’t buy too much, it was more to take a look around and see if we could find any awesome things.  Ciera found some pretty cheap and good clothes at K-Mart so she bought them for herself. On Sunday, we did similar things, except I knew what Ciera wanted! She wanted a bike, so we went to K-Mart and got one. Luckily I bumped into my dad at K-Mart, so he was able to give us a lift home (otherwise we would have had to carry a big box on public transport!). We nearly finished assembling the bike but then realised we need a bigger wrench to finish it off. We did buy tools, but only a small wrench. So Ciera’s going to buy a large wrench tomorrow so we can finish putting it all together.

Until next time,
— Daniel

Week 22 together!

I didn’t manage to get a picture of us this week so you get to enjoy a cute picture of Louie… sleeping… like a cat does.

Voting makes Louie sleepy.

Would you be amazed if I told you this week has been similar to a lot of others? Haha! Once again, not much happened during the week but we did do things during the weekend.

We both worked most of the week and I don’t think we met up with each other during the day until Friday. This week seemed to go really slow for me and Daniel was very busy with work all week so we decided we’d have a dinner date Friday night. We went to Papa Gino’s again and it was delicious as always. This time we shared some fettuccine carbonara and a meat lovers pizza.

Saturday was a fun day for us. Daniel went to vote in the morning and then we inspected a house that was just two doors down xD. Daniel and I always talk about having our own place but we’re waiting until I’m at least a resident so we can save up for other things we need now. We plan on inspecting a lot more houses as well so we can know what we’re doing when we actually are house shopping. Anyways, after inspecting the house, Daniel had breakfast and then we went out. There was a phone store, Crazy John’s, having a warehouse sale with plenty of awesome mobile phones for really cheap. We didn’t get there early enough for the great deals, though. After that we went through a few op shops, and even looked at some bike stores so I could show Daniel “Claus” the kind of bike I want. We did some grocery shopping for the family as well. It felt so grown up… and like we were doing it for ourselves. Like… we actually were living on our own and doing things for ourselves. I love that feeling :) I guess I should appreciate it while it lasts. Read the rest of this post…

Week 21 together!

Us being cute :)

21 weeks together! Such an amazing milestone for both of us :).  I don’t have much to tell for this week, as I can’t remember a lot of what happened because I was sick for a lot of it :(

I was feeling a bit sick this week, which was bad :(. I was meant to go in to work early on Wednesday, but I slept in through my alarm, only to be woken by a text from my team leader asking where I was. I still felt bad, but replied saying I slept in due to feeling sick and would go in anyways. I ended up getting to work a little earlier than I normally would. I got worse during the day, so went home a bit early, and stayed home the next day (Thursday).

On Saturday, Ciera wanted to go to a rally in the city, promoting marriage equality for gay couples. We were going to go into the city anyways so we went. It was pretty fun – Some good speakers at the rally, and it was fun walking down the street in a large crowd xD. We also went to get the Toy Story 1+2+3 collection on DVD. A store called Big W advertised it for $34ish, but they didn’t have any in stock. We took their catalogue and went to another store called JB Hi-Fi to try and get them to match the price Big W had the DVD at. They said the ad was actually a mistake by Big W and they can’t match it (which seems to be true, from the Google searching I did afterwards). We ended up buying the DVD from JB Hi-Fi even if it was more expensive. Now we finally have the entire Toy Story collection on DVD :D. I guess we should get a Blu-Ray player one day too, huh? 😛

Today (Sunday) was Joshua’s First Communion, which is a Catholic… thingy. He had a mass at 9 AM and a party at 3 PM. I didn’t go to the mass because I was doing some awesome stuff (otherwise known as sleeping), but I did go to the party. There was a lot of people there, mainly relatives and other family friends. Some nice food too. It was alright :)

Until next week,
— Daniel

Week 20 together!

We were both excited for the parade!

Saturday was probably the best day for us this week. The rest of the week was normal except for a couple of bad days I had.

The week seems to be all jumbled up in my brain so I won’t go by day; I’ll go by what I remember happening. The start of the week wasn’t fun for me. On Tuesday I lost my phone while heading to work so I had to turn around and look for it. Of course this made me a tiny bit late (5 mins) during the week they were checking on punctuality. After that day I decided I needed to have a day off to get things done and avoid any other bad luck. When I tried to call in, the house phone was out of credit. Such bad luck with phones! Anyways, I got that fixed and called in. Then I went out to meet up with Daniel for lunch. We had a good lunch, of course. :) Then I went home to wait for Daniel. We decided to meet up at Northcote Plaza to grab some things I needed. After we got home from that, it was just a few minutes until I had to get shifts for next week. I only managed to get 3 :(.

Daniel and I have been feeling sick this week. It’s an off and on thing but still no fun. Since I’m allergic to everything, I blame my sickness on things in the air. Daniel hasn’t been tested for allergies but I still blame allergens for his sickness as well :P.

The Myer Christmas Parade was on Saturday. Read the rest of this post…

Week 19 – Two year anniversary!!

The teddy Ciera got as a two year anniversary present!

Another incredible week in the lives of Daniel and Ciera! This week was quite special for us, since it was our two year anniversary :D! On Monday, Ciera wanted to make some delicious cake, so after work, we both went together to the supermarket and bought some delicious chocolate cake mix. We also got some carbonara pasta sauce and some ravioli to go with it (can you tell that we love our Italian food? Haha :D). Pasta is delicious. Tuesday was the Melbourne Cup, so we both had a day off. I’m not entirely sure why the Melbourne Cup is a public holiday since it’s pretty much just a horse race, but whatever. It’s a holiday, so I’m not complaining 😀

On Thursday, I started work early again (as I’ve mentioned in the past). Normally the early days are Wednesdays, but since Tuesday was a public holiday, the early day got moved to Thursday. In any case, this meant getting up really early, and finishing work earlier than normal. I was going to meet Ciera after work in the city, but she had to bring Louie (our cat) to the vet for another immunisation at the same time as I finished work. So, we ended up just meeting at home. It was still great to get home early and get a little bit of extra time with Ciera (since she’s so amazing!) :).

Friday was our special day, our two year anniversary! Read the rest of this post…

Week 18 together!

We both have beautiful blue eyes :)

Get ready for a long post! A lot happened with us this week.

Monday was mostly a normal day. Daniel and I had work in the morning so we were both out of the house. When I got home from work (around 2:30 pm, I think), Daniel’s mum informed me that Louie had been missing since 12:30 pm. This is where the day became… not so normal. I was pretty calm about for the first hour or so but the longer he was gone, the more emotions I felt. I started getting really worried (about Louie) and annoyed (with Daniel’s mum). Louie’s last owner let us know that he gets stuck in trees so I walked around the neighbourhood looking in all the trees. We didn’t have any luck finding him during the day so when Daniel got home, we posted a lost cat article on a website called petfinders (he’s now on the “successes” page :D).  That night was really hard for me. I cried all night because I was so worried. :(

Tuesday was a whole lot better! 😉 I had work in the morning again but when I got home, I printed off some lost cat posters and taped them up around the area. While I was doing that I also kept looking around for him. I also called the lost dogs home just in case someone took him there. They hadn’t seen him but they told me to come past in a few days if he doesn’t come home. Luckily, he did! Read the rest of this post…

Week 17 together!!

We love cuddles!

This week was pretty good! Ciera had six shifts for work this week, which is the most she’s ever had! She was exhausted by the end of the week, and so was I (but then again, I always am). We relaxed a lot during the weekend, which is something we both needed… I always seem to work so hard :P.

On Tuesday, Ciera worked two different shifts. Both were in the CBD, so I got to see her for both lunch and after work! It was great. Seeing her after work means I get to spend even more time with her than usual! :). On Friday, I met Ciera after work, and we both went to Melbourne Central to meet up with a few of my friends from university. It was pretty much a little get-together. We had had one a few weeks ago as well, but Ciera didn’t want to come along to that one. This time, she did, and we all went to have dinner somewhere at Melbourne Central. I ate a delicious chicken parma, and Ciera had some (also delicious) penne with meatballs. My friends had some alcoholic drinks, but since Ciera and I don’t drink alcohol, we decided on some other drinks. Ciera had a strawberry smoothie and I had a Coca Cola. All in all, the night was pretty good :)

Saturday was pretty awesome. We had a rather lazy day, but remembered that Sonic The Hedgehog 4 had been released! We went onto Wiiware on our Wii, paid for and downloaded the game, and tried it out. It’s pretty awesome! Not as good as the older Sonic games though. We ended up just spending the day playing it as well as the older Sonic games, in emulators. Today’s Sunday, which has been a pretty lazy day too. We played some more games, and at the moment, I’m writing this blog post while Ciera plays yet more games xD. We were going to look more into the Partner Visa stuff, but haven’t done that yet. We’ll have to eventually though. It’ll be kinda fun. :)

Until next time (that’s my sign-off line, not Ciera’s!),
— Daniel
